Ms. Marie Pantina is the founder and owner of the Suzuki Cello School of Austin, an active Suzuki cello studio of students aged preschool through adult. She holds Master’s degree in Music and Human Learning from the University of Texas at Austin and graduated magna cum laude from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, with a Bachelor’s degree in cello performance, studying with Martha Gerschefski and Pamela Devenport. In addition, she also completed a comprehensive two-year Suzuki cello pedagogy program while completing her undergraduate studies. While completing her Masters degree, Marie studied topics in music education research, string pedagogy, cello technique, music in therapy and special education, classroom and behavior management, behavioral psychology and learning theory, and philosophies of music education.
While in Atlanta, Marie taught private lessons and group classes as well as technique classes, cello ensembles and held sectionals and orchestra rehearsals at many programs, including as the Waldorf School of Atlanta and the Atlanta International School. In addition to her active teaching schedule, Marie performed frequently in Atlanta and the Southeast as a freelance musician.
Marie has most recently served on the faculties of the University of Texas at Austin String Project and the University of Texas Elementary School in East Austin, where she taught private lessons, group classes, and a middle school string orchestra. Additionally, Marie served as the UT String Project Preschool Coordinator for the Preschool program violin, cello and bass students and served as the coordinator of the UT String Project Cello Workshop in October 2012. Marie has organized and presented lectures regarding different aspects of cello technique and pedagogy as well as the effects parent involvement in the music learning process.
When not teaching children and writing about music learning, Marie spends her free time experimenting in the kitchen, making homemade ice cream, hiking around Austin and Texas, and drinking coffee with her fiancè, Sono.
